The New Stryda 10m Alloy Catamaran

Crafting a New Catamaran

A few years ago, John looked closely at the Stryda 600C, but ultimately found it a little too small for his needs and set the idea aside. Fast forward to this year’s Auckland Boat Show, where he saw the enclosed cabin 600C on display. This time, it was much closer to what he had envisioned.

John asked the team a simple question:

Would we consider building a larger version of the enclosed cabin 600C?

From that chat, everything started to take off.   After months of design and refinement, we are now in the final drafting stage and getting ready to cut materials —the exciting step where the vision begins to take shape.

  • Fresh Water Tank (80L) – supplying water for cooking, cleaning, and rinsing off
  • Fuel Capacity (500L) – ample range for long trips, with optional expansion available

Combustion Engine vs. EOH

When it came to propulsion, both combustion engines and EOH (Electric Over Hydraulic) technology were on the table. This was one of the biggest decisions John faced during the design stage.  After careful consideration, John chose a combustion engine configuration, based on three key factors:

  • Reliability – Proven technology with unlimited run time as long as fuel is available
  • Weight & Space – No heavy battery packs, leaving more usable space onboard
  • Practicality – Primary use is mainland-to-island trips, can be extended to a week or more, making charging infrastructure difficult

What’s Next

The new 10m catamaran is currently in its final stages of design, and we can’t wait to share more as construction begins.  If you’re interested in this model, get in touch with the team and we’ll be happy to share progress updates with you.
